Connected Distribution: Streaming Audio

The development in streaming audio products and the abundant plethora of streaming services means that today's distributed audio revolves pretty much entirely around streamers.

Arguably the demise of hard copy content and conversant players, started with streaming music from your LAN (from NAS drives or dedicated media centre PC's etc.) a good few years back. This epoch has in turn lessened and expedited the demand for WAN based streaming services being accomodated across multiple product platforms and maunfacturers.

Although LAN based content and connectivity in products is still in the domain (especially for very high resolution audio and the Hi-Fi fraternity), and UPnP and DLNA provision is still prevalent on all current streaming products, the focus has inevitably shifted away from the home to cloud based provison with music services (now also growing exponentially with video too).

'Streamers' for more common parlance, are now found in seperate dedicated sources as add in's for exisiting Hi-Fi or multi-room systems, integrated into stereo amplifiers, soundbars and soundbases - and also now also heavily integrated into home cinema AV receivers too. They are indubitably the fulcrum of any modern day audio product.
